Who am I?

By now you're likely wondering who I am and why I'm blogging about head lice. It's OK to wonder, and I'm happy to share a little about myself with all of you.

Chances are, I'm just like you. I'm a mom (2 kids ages 3 and 1) and a wife (getting ready to celebrate our 5th anniversary in a few weeks). My life consists of balancing the demands of work, motherhood, friends, and trying to find a few minutes at the end of the day for myself. Which, if you're like me, rarely happens.

So, why me? What makes me an authority on head lice? Why should you look to me when considering a head lice treatment? First of all, I'm not an expert, but I am an advocate for health education - particularly head lice education. Here are my qualifications:

• I have a degree in Biology - yes, I was the nerdy girl in college studying for Organic Chemistry exams on a Saturday night. I love science and just about everything scientific.
• My 9 years of professional experience in the pharmaceutical industry have exposed me to the challenges that our healthcare providers and patients face everyday when diagnosing and treating illnesses.
  • I am passionate about helping people and making sure everyone gets informed about whatever condition may be affecting you.
• When I was diagnosed with cancer (Hodgkins Lymphoma) in June, 2008, I spent a lot of time on-line researching everything I could find about it, the treatments I received and my side effects.
  • I know, all too well, that there's a huge amount of information out there - some good, some not so great. It's hard to know what is credible and what's not.
• Most importantly, I'm a mom. My kids go to day care-all day, all week.
  • They play dress-up and sleep on cots right next to other kids. Our pediatrician sees us regularly - they call my husband and me by our first names and ask "what's new" since our last visit. Chances are, I could be writing one day in the not so distant future about one of my kids being sent home and frantically trying to figure out what to do so I don't burn through my personal days at work.

My goal is to provide you the most accurate information I can about head lice and head lice treatment options.
